South Decatur FFA takes part in district leadership contest

MADISON – The FFA participated in the District XII leadership contest held Tuesday night, March 11, at Madison High School.

The novice chapter meeting team placed first and will compete in the section contest April 16. Members are Will Smiley, Jacob Johnson, Cecil Richey, Logan Owens, Walker Gabbard, Nathan Benge, Daniel Mapes, Zane Brown, Kayla Carder, Zoey Nobbe, Carl Kroger, Will Armand, and Brooke Owens.

South also had three other first place finishers who will compete in the State Contest in June.

Katie Vanderbur won in the discovery public speaking. Hunter Gatewood and Dalton McNealy won in the discovery horticulture demonstration, and Megan Vanderbur won senior public speaking.

Second place finishes were Will Armand in the discovery animal science demonstration, Megan Vanderbur and Chayla Cox in the talent contest, and Walker Gabbard and Jacob Johnson in the senior animal science demonstration.

Third place finishers were Will Smiley in extemporaneous public speaking and Megan Vanderbur in beef production. Other participating members were Daelyn Stuehrenberg and Katherine Williams. South Decatur Junior/Senior High School offered congratulations to all participants.
