Messer to host 6th District Job Fair
MUNCIE — Congressman Luke Messer vwill be hosting the 17th annual 6th Congressional District Job Fair on Monday, August 5th at Ball State University’s Worthen Arena.
For the first time this year, there will be a special hour-long opportunity for local veterans to interact with employers from 1 to 2 p.m.
The event will be open to the general public from 2 to 5 p.m. This year, 64 companies will be looking to fill more than 1,100 job openings. There will be 11 different job sectors represented, including manufacturing, healthcare, financial, and education.
“Over its 16-year history, the 6th Congressional District Job has helped an estimated 15,000 people find jobs. I am proud to follow in my predecessor’s footsteps in hosting the Job Fair to help Hoosiers get back to work,” said Messer.
Starting at noon, Congressman Messer and representatives from Ball State University will address the impact of this event on our local community and economy.
A similar event will be hosted in Lawrenceburg, Indiana in early October, with more information to be released at a later date.

Band Day kicks off Indiana State Fair
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana State Fair has opened its 17-day run with a schedule including the annual high school marching band contest.
Gov. Mike Pence joined in a celebration Friday morning at the Glass Barn at the fairgrounds on the north side of Indianapolis as thousands of people arrived amid cool temperatures for an opening day of the fair.
Band Day has 45 marching bands from across the state being judge on music, visual execution and general effect.
Fairgoers looking to save $5 can take advantage of the State Fair Park & Ride service at the nearby Glendale Mall. It offers free shuttle service each day from the mall’s Rural Street lot to the fairgrounds.
The fair runs through Aug. 18.
