House notes Indianapolis International's named best airport in North America

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) extended its sincere appreciation to the Indiana House of Representatives for formally recognizing the Indianapolis International Airport’s (IND) ranking as the top airport in North America. State Representative P. Eric Turner (R-Cicero) introduced the resolution in the Indiana House of Representatives chamber.

“The Indianapolis airport is a major economic hub for our state and continues to be a significant reason for why businesses want to locate and grow their operations here,” said Representative Turner. “The world-class facility has all the amenities to make travelers feel welcomed and gives the first impression of our Hoosier hospitality.”

Last week, Airports Council International announced that IND was the best airport in North America for 2013, the second straight year the airport received the top honor. IND’s first-place finish came in the prestigious annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) awards for performance excellence. IND was also named best airport in North America for 2012 and 2010, and has been ranked in the top three airports in North America in every year since.

“We thank Representative Turner and the Indiana House of Representatives for highlighting IND’s achievement of being named the top airport in North America,” said Robert Duncan, executive director for the IAA. “We believe that our success here at IND is a benefit for our entire state, and we remain fully focused on being the best and growing the over $4.5 billion in positive economic impact that IND helps generate for our region each year.”

The Indianapolis Airport Authority owns and operates Indiana’s largest airport system. In addition to the Indianapolis International Airport, its facilities include the Downtown Heliport, Eagle Creek Airpark, Hendricks County Airport, Indianapolis Regional Airport, and Metropolitan Airport. IND has received numerous prestigious awards recognizing it as a leader within its class, including best airport in North America in 2010 and 2012 in Airports Council International’s annual Airport Service Quality awards. IND is the first airport in the U.S. to win LEED® certification for an entire terminal campus, and the airport has won recognition for excellent customer service, concessions programs, and art and architecture.
