“Race to the Heart of Tree City” was the theme of the convention and Shelly Hellmich presided over the business meeting. A warm welcome to the city was presented by City Council President Darrell Poling and Tourism Director Melanie Maxwell.

Delta Lambda members served as the hostess chapter for this year’s convention, which was held for the first time in Greensburg. All members of Delta Lambda were present to help with the many functions that were held throughout the weekend. Delegates for this convention were from Bloomfield, Bloomington, Franklin, Greenwood, Jasonville, Martinsville, Owensburg, Petersburg, Seymour, Shelbyville, Vincennes, Washington, Connersville, Spencer, Brookville, Carlisle and Greensburg.

A combined total from the Province donated to philanthropic projects during the past year was $113,971.22. The members supported their communities with a total of 24, 124 volunteer hours during the past year.

Awards were given to chapters with the highest total amounts of money spent on philanthropy and also for the chapters with the most volunteer hours. Social activities enjoyed by members included the “Tower Tree Mixer,” “Picnic on the Square Luncheon,” “Delt’s ‘500’ Victory Banquet,” and the “Delta Dash Raffle.” Jeff Kuehl was the guest speaker at the banquet, which everyone enjoyed.

Delta Lambda Chapter would like to thank Decatur County Tourism for awarding the grant used to promote tourism in our community. They will now be able to support more philanthropic needs in the county. The guests present from the other 16 cities were able to see the great community of Decatur County, which all the Delta Lambda members are proud to be a part of.

Delta Theta Tau, a National Philanthropic Sorority, was founded in 1903 in Muncie, by five high school girls. Zeta Lambda of Shelbyville, will be the host chapter for the 2014 Province Convention, in September of next year.
