---- — GREENSBURG – Mayor Gary Herbert accepted a check Thursday morning on behalf of the city of Greensburg to assist with economic development efforts.

Vectren Energy Division Manager Bob Rogge presented the $2,500 check to Mayor Herbert and Greensburg-Decatur County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Executive Director Marc Coplon at City Hall. The money will be used to fund activities for the EDC’s annual business appreciation day, a yearly event to thank the members of the business community in Greensburg and Decatur County.

“The Economic Development Corporation is very grateful to Vectren Energy. This is our third year of working with them and they have been a major sponsor and supporter,” Coplon said.

Both Herbert and Coplon expressed their gratitude to Rogge and Vectren for all the support they have extended to Greensburg over the years. They then discussed some of the past assistance Vectren has offered to various organizations and businesses in Greensburg. The conversation then turned to Mayor Herbert’s recent trip to Greensburg’s sister city in China.

“The residents of Greensburg are blessed to have someone who is as driven and committed as Mayor Herbert. Marc and the Economic Development Corporation are always selling the community to new business, but it’s great how they recognize and support the existing businesses as well,” Rogge said.

Coplon agreed with Rogge and the trio began discussing the EDC board and the fact that both Mayor Herbert and a Vectren employee, Jamoni Harper, are members. The EDC has been instrumental in bringing some key businesses to Decatur County and supporting the businesses that are already here.

“I’ve been here a little more than two and a half years as the director of the EDC and it’s a pleasure to have a progressive mayor on our EDC board that understands the importance of the existing businesses in our community,” Coplon said.

Conversation turned to the various joint efforts between the city of Greensburg and the EDC, many with the assistance of Vectren Energy. They touted the vital importance of developing the economy in Decatur County and helping the city to grow and evolve.

“We’re so fortunate to have involvement from different organizations, this time specifically Vectren Energy. They’ve stepped up and donated to many groups and organizations. The way money is now, we are fortunate to find anyone who can contribute so generously,” Mayor Herbert said.
