Decatur County United Fund and partners offer Volunteer Management program

---- — Decatur County United Fund, the Indiana Nonprofit Resource Network and the Decatur County Collaborative Committee are pleased to announce a workshop available to community organizations.

The workshop, “12 Elements of a Successful Volunteer Management Program,” will take place Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Greensburg Learning Center, 422 East Central Avenue. The presenter will be Angie Huebel, Director of the Volunteer Action Center for United Way of Bartholomew County.

The Volunteer Management Program will highlight generational differences in volunteers, designing positions for volunteers, volunteer recruitment – interviewing-orienting and training-supervising-and volunteer recognition. In addition, risk management in volunteer programs, delegating to volunteers, volunteer motivation, handling volunteer performance problems, and volunteer program evaluation.

This Volunteer Management Program offers approaches to planning, implementing and maintaining a volunteer management strategy for nonprofit organizations and other organizations and will share best practices relevant to today’s volunteer manager.

The event is receiving generous sponsorships from the Decatur County Community Foundation, and Duke Energy. To further incentivize attendance, a $250 cash prize will be given away to one attending organization thanks to Duke Energy. Decatur County Community Foundation is supporting the volunteer program by sponsoring the speaker.

Joane Cunningham, Executive Director of the Decatur County United Fund, shared, “I hope the many non-profits within our community that have volunteers helping with day to day operations will benefit from the information shared at this training. Elly Arden is quoted as saying “It is a service to the community to volunteer. You always think how good it feels to help someone in a time of need.” For the participants, we hope to strengthen the volunteer opportunities in Decatur County.”

The Decatur County Collaborative Committee is comprised of Joane Cunningham- Decatur County United Fund, Bob Cupp – YMCA Board Member, Diane Hart-Dawson – YMCA CEO, Deb Locke-Decatur County Community Foundation, Bryan Robbins – Hospital Foundation of Decatur County, and Cathy Wenning – Duke Energy. With this workshop, the collaborative team hopes to improve the volunteer efforts in our community.
