Manufacturing jobs reports positive
Two new studies suggest gains in the Indiana manufacturing sector. The first, published by Illinois-based Manufacturers’ News Inc., shows the state has added manufacturing jobs for the third consecutive year. An inaugural study released by Northeast Indiana Works projects “moderate” job growth in the region over the next decade.
Local projects score federal funds
Communities throughout the state will share more than $100 million in federal transportation funding. The money will support road, bridge and bicycle construction projects.
IU looking to improve grad rates
Indiana University has launched an initiative aimed at boosting the four and six-year graduation rates. The effort involves new training and data resources, progress monitoring and improved software.
Grant foots bill for Frankfort crossings
Students who walk to school in Frankfort will find $250,000 worth of improvements along four routes. The city will use grant money from the Indiana Department of Transportation to pay for sidewalks, ramps and crosswalk improvements. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017.
Lilly Foundation Boosts Teach For America
Eli Lilly and Co. Foundation Inc. has awarded Teach For America-Indianapolis a two-year, $500,000 grant. The funding will support continuing efforts to recruit and train college graduates to teach in the city’s highest-need public schools.
