Campaign chairs kick off fundraising with donation

GREENSBURG – The 2013 “Rooted in Decatur County….Let’s Tend to Our Roots” campaign officially started Tuesday, Sept. 3 on WTRE for the Decatur County United Fund.

Tim and Lora Williams, 2013 Campaign Chairs, made their pledge of $1,500 to the campaign.

“Our theme this year lends very well to our community efforts,” Lora Williams noted. “There is a significant number of individuals who were born and raised here, work here, support community projects, and truly want our community to thrive. The theme really addresses how we are all working to engage people and organizations with the passion, expertise and resources needed to tend to Decatur County’s most pressing issues.” Williams, along with her husband Tim, is working to raise $390,000 to benefit 22 agencies in 2014. According to Tim and Lora, the agencies that benefit from the United Fund dollars help meet the human needs of young to old in a wide array of services.

This campaign will support the following partners: Advocates for Children, American Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Bread of Life, Carousel Play and Learn Center, Catch A Ride, Community Healthcare Clinic, and Decatur County 4 Kids. Also, Decatur County Youth Baseball, Decatur County Youth Soccer Club, Foster Grandparent Program, Girl Scouts, Head Start, Human Services, Legal Aid, Meals on Wheels. New Directions, Our Hospice of Decatur County, St. Paul Senior Center, Turning Point, United Way 2-1-1 and Decatur County Family YMCA also benefit from United Fund dollars.

According to Lora, the campaign to date has raised $11,352 toward the goal of $390,000. Thanks to the help of many individuals and companies, the Williamses will continue to work toward reaching this goal. Lora noted, “Every contribution is important. We have seen the impact United Fund has on people in our community. We feel it is important to spread the word that United Fund is a great organization to support as we continue tending to our roots in Decatur County.”
