---- — GREENSBURG – The Greensburg-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce held its 28th annual golf outing Friday at North Branch Golf course.

There were 21 teams of four in attendance, playing 18 holes over the course of the day. Chamber members grouped together to form teams. The weather was indecisive, alternately switching between muggy and comfortable, sunny and overcast. Despite the fickle weather and the threat of rain, teams spread out across the course to compete for top honors at this year’s outing. Last year, 14 teams took part in the outing and Chamber Executive Director Jeff Emsweller was thrilled with the turnout for this year’s event.

Emsweller extended a special thanks to the event’s title sponsor, Arbor Grove Village.

Many of the 18 holes had sponsors- and prizes. First Federal Savings and Loan sponsored a hole-in-one contest with a Hawaiian vacation as the prize. One golfer, Jim Bogemann of Milestone Road Construction, managed to land his ball within two feet of the hole, but didn’t net the coveted prize. Bogemann and the Milestone team won the top prize at last year’s event. Jenni Hanna, of ETC, manned the hole to provide confirmation of any holes-in-one. She prepared for the occasion by donning a grass skirt, a lei and a floral top. She even had some Hawaiian music on hand should anyone make the hole-in-one.

Other hole-in-one prizes were a 2014 Chevy Impala sponsored by Tom Sibbit, a flatscreen television, a $500 Visa gift card, a kindle fire and a set of Cleveland golf clubs.

Several of the sponsored holes had small games for participants to play.

At the hole sponsored by MainSource Bank, players traded in their golf balls for oversized marshmallows in a contest for the longest drive. Results were varied- and hilarious. When the driver struck the marshmallow, an entertainingly loud thwack reverberated around the area, often prompting laughter from team members. For each team, the player with the longest marshmallow drive got to enter their name into a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card.

As they played through the course and passed the clubhouse, players stopped to grab a plate of the delicious food catered by Izzy’s Catering. Throughout the day, a cart carrying beverages and snacks traveled the course, offering refreshment for players.

The outing began with tee-off at 11 a.m. and play ended around 3 p.m. After all the golfers finished the course, an awards ceremony was held to honor top golfers. Happy hour and a meal catered by Buffalo Wings and Rings followed the awards.

As of press time, a list of winners for individual categories was not available and will be printed in a later edition of the Daily News.
