Lanny Copeland, M.D., of Brentwood, Tenn., formerly of Decatur County, was recently named by Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician magazines as one of the "50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare."
This is the fourth year in a row that Dr. Copeland was included in this prestigious ranking; this year he is ranked eighth on the list.
Dr. Copeland serves as the Chief Medical Officer of LifePoint Hospitals, located in Brentwood, Tenn. LifePoint is a publicly traded company which owns and operates 55 hospitals in 18 states, all of which are located in rural or non-urban communities. Dr. Copeland is a family physician who practiced for 20 years in Indiana and Georgia, and is a past President of the American Academy of Family Physicians, an organization with a membership of 97,000.
He currently serves on the American Hospital Association's Small and Rural Hospital Governing Council as well as the Hospital Outpatient Payment (HOP) advisory panel for CMS.
Dr. Copeland is a 1962 graduate of Cross Plains High School, a 1966 graduate of Georgetown College in Kentucky, and a 1971 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is the son of the late Ross and Laura Copeland.
