Church Briefs

Sandcreek Baptist Church

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, this Sunday, we at Sandcreek Baptist will have a special visit from State Representative Randy Fry. He’s coming to present a “resolution” to our congregation in honor of our June 2012 celebration of the 190th anniversary of the founding of our church. We consider this an exciting day and want to invite you to enjoy it with us. Also, a reminder that the Wednesday evening Bible study will resume July 10 at Jim and Nancy Sallee’s home.

The softball team is ready to compete in this upcoming season. All past members of the team are invited and expected to show up for our first game July 8. We invite and welcome any and all who want to be a part of our team. If you have questions, call Rachael S. or the church office at 663-3009. Leave a message and someone will return your call.

Seems like the summer activities are finally here, and so are the warm temperatures — some a bit too warm and much too humid. If you’re lucky enough to have air conditioning, be daily thankful. If not, enjoy those occasional free, cool breezes and be thankful for them too. Sometimes it’s hard to believe God won’t give us more than we can bear, but those extremely hot and humid days can test your faith and belief. Just remember, when you’re uncomfortably hot and sweaty, Hell is a lot hotter. Better come to church this Sunday and take care of installing that “heir conditioning.”

  • We could learn a lesson from rodeo: Either let go...or be dragged A friend who has some experience with rodeo horses sent me a most picturesque proverb: “Let go or be dragged.” Whether this phrase was first spoken by a Zen master who had achieved enlightenment on the mountainside, or by a battered cowboy nursing hi

  • Poverty has its advantages I must confess to a severe case of poverty. I never took a vow of poverty; it just seems to have worked out that way for me. I am so poor the church mice have packed their bags and moved on. If I knew where they moved to, I might join them.Being poor
