Church Briefs

Sandcreek Baptist Church

It was sure good to get back to church last Sunday. The weather was better and it was just good to be with friends and hear God’s Word read and spoken from the pulpit.

We will be accepting your donation to the America for Christ offering on Sunday, March 2 and 9.

The Men’s Brotherhood will meet at Mt. Moriah at 6:30 p.m., March 4. There will be a meal for $7. You’ll need to make your reservation with Dennis Collins.

March 7 will be the World Day of Prayer, with Sandcreek hosting. Following the service we will share together in light refreshments and fellowship. Watch next week for the time and further details.

Today as I write, the weatherman is at it again. Says we may get more ice, snow – you name it – this weekend. I’m just hoping it’s okay and safe for everyone to be out and attending church and Sunday school services. The week just doesn’t get a good start without church and Sunday school first. Try it. You’ll like it.

First Presbyterian Church, “The Church on the Square”

We will hold an Ash Wednesday Service from 6:30 p.m., March 5. A light meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., in Fellowship Hall, followed by a devotional service in the sanctuary.

Embracing Spiritual Awakening is an Adult Class meeting at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesdays during Lent – March 12, 19, 26, April 9 and 16. A meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. The class will explore moving from believing to understanding, from behaving to action, from belonging to identity. We will ask not only what do we believe, but how do we believe? What should we do now? Whose are we? We will talk about faith experience, discernment, purpose, relationship and community. Waking up – believing – behaving – belonging – awakening.

  • We could learn a lesson from rodeo: Either let go...or be dragged A friend who has some experience with rodeo horses sent me a most picturesque proverb: “Let go or be dragged.” Whether this phrase was first spoken by a Zen master who had achieved enlightenment on the mountainside, or by a battered cowboy nursing hi

  • Poverty has its advantages I must confess to a severe case of poverty. I never took a vow of poverty; it just seems to have worked out that way for me. I am so poor the church mice have packed their bags and moved on. If I knew where they moved to, I might join them.Being poor
