---- — GREENSBURG – First Christian Church will soon be starting an eight week campaign that will teach attendees about God’s design for the church.

The program, entitled “This is Church,” will begin with a tailgate party September 8 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the Decatur County Fairgrounds. The party will be football themed and those that plan to attend are asked to wear their favorite jersey or football attire. Food, drinks and music will be provided.

Everyone is welcome at the tailgate party and throughout the “This is Church” campaign. Over the last eight months, members of First Christian Church have worked diligently to create a video titled, “This is Discipling” as well as writing materials for all the age groups in the church. The focus of all the materials will be about what God wants the church to be as opposed to what people want it to be. Groups have been created for children’s ministry, junior high ministry and adult ministry.

First Christian Church’s mission statement is “Love God, love people, make disciples,” and they are taking that mission to heart with the planned eight week study. Each week will have a different theme for the discussions, all of which will take place on Sundays during the course of the study.

The theme for week one is “making disciples”; week two will be “love”; week three will be “liberate”; week four will be “lead”; week five will be “launch”; week six will be “now what?”; week seven will be “service Sunday” and week eight will be “celebration Sunday.”

During the service Sunday, there will be short morning worship service, after which church members will separate and go out into the community to perform service projects for those in need. Celebration Sunday will take place at the church and will be a relaxed, festive event geared toward celebrating faith and fellowship.

Wednesday evenings, First Christian Church will be holding non-formal, low key church services at Holy Grounds Café for those who are unable to attend Sunday services. In addition, through the week, attendees can sign up for small groups that will decide where and when to meet to discuss the week’s theme. Booklets with daily devotions will be given to participants. Children’s, junior high and adult ministries will continue to meet Wednesday evenings, while the high school ministry will meet on Sundays.

The eight week faith study will culminate with “Trunk or Treat” on Halloween, where participants fill the parking lot and pass out candy to trick-or-treaters from the trunks of their cars. This will provide a safe, effective method of trick-or-treating for children and has been proven to be very helpful to parents in the past, especially those with more than one child.
