A positive minute: Y is for yield

Romans 6:16 – “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”

Signs are everywhere, even in the country, that advise us when we need to stop, speed limit and when we need to yield to other traffic. Without the signs and traffic lights can you imagine what traffic would be like? It would be chaotic at best.

The yield sign advises us to proceed with caution, without sopping, unless there is traffic on the cross street or in the lane of travel we will move into when entering an Interstate. I have seen some intersecting streets/roads that should have a stop sign rather than a yield sign, but I’m not the one who makes those decisions.

To yield is saying that we are giving the right of way to someone else. In our spiritual journey, when we yield ourselves to God, then we are saying that we are giving God the right of way in our lives.

For those who have no desire to yield to God in their lives, guess to whom they are yielding? The enemy of our soul is standing by to place within us the desire to do evil. Think not? Listen to the news any given day or night and what do you hear the most? Evil doing, theft, robbery, burglary, murder and a multitude of other occurrences that lead one, not to grace, but to evil. That is not the Lord’s desire for humanity.

When a person decides to yield their life to the Lord it really does make a difference in how they live in this life. Our scripture says: “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”
