A positive minute: Y is for yield

(Continued)

It’s pretty clear that we are servants to whomever it is that we yield ourselves in this life. The choice is to do good or, evil. I submit that it doesn’t matter if one has been in church all of their life, if they have an attitude that causes problems by what they say or how they live, there is a real good chance that person has not yielded totally to the Lord.

I hear from people who used to attend church, but haven’t attended in a long time due to the way they were treated by someone in the church. So, the question is, are we, as church attenders, yielding our lives to the Holy Spirit or not? The answer is easy. How do you treat others? How willing are you not to spread gossip? The list goes on and on.

Determine today that you will yield your life to the Holy Spirit. He will not guide you into places where you should not be or, prompt you to say or, do what you should not be doing. The Holy Spirit will, help you to be strong in your faith and start being a blessing in people’s lives.

If we yield our life to God, we will most certainly, be blessed by righteousness or, right living. Does all of this come automatically? Well, not exactly. It takes each of us working on our attitude and behavior every day. This is something the Holy Spirit will help each of us with as we yield our life to Him.

Sometimes it’s difficult to accept what the Word of God says to us. Sometimes it stings doesn’t it? St. Augustine had this to say: If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don’t like, it is not the gospel you believe, but yourself.
