Greensburg woman sings the gospel

Greensburg — Greensburg resident Danielle Miller’s first gospel CD, entitled “Faithful,” is scheduled to be released Saturday.

The CD, which features traditional hymn-style music, will be available at Rainbow Books and Gifts and online at http://www.facebook.com/dkmillermusic. Miller said some recognizable hymns may be “What a Day That Will Be” and “Just a Closer Walk With Thee.”

Miller, 37, has sang all her life, she said.

Inspired by the “The Queen of Christian Pop,” Amy Grant, and Miller’s own musically-inclined mother, Danielle has a long history of winning musical awards dating back to her teen years. Even as a young child participating in the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, she impressed her musical accompaniment with her talent despite a lack of training.

Despite her successes, Danielle’s powerful soprano voice made her a target for teasing, which she took to heart as a teen.

As a result, she abandoned her plans to pursue music in college, afraid that she wasn’t as good as people had always told her she was.

In retrospect, Miller said, the other kids were likely jealous of her talent; her high school choir was sarcastically referred to as “Danielle and the Backup Singers.”

“I allowed myself to be discouraged,” said Danielle, “I let negativity effect me.”

Miller’s self-consciousness led her to run from musical ministry, she said, but she recently found her peace in God.

“It’s been absolutely amazing what god has done since I’ve surrendered my talent to use for him,” said Miller.

Two days after she came to her epiphany, she received a call from a church in West Virginia.

Someone had seen her videos on Youtube and showed them to the church’s minister. The minister wanted Miller to come to West Virginia and perform a concert.

Miller was shocked, and agreed to do the concert. The minister asked Danielle to bring some CDs, sure that her audience would want to take her music home.

“The studio came to us,” said Miller, and now the CD will be available for sale a matter of weeks after agreeing to the West Virginian concert.

“Why did I think I was going to fail all these years?” Miller laughed during her interview.

Danielle said that through her music she wants to convey that God loves, and that there is hope.

“I know that in today’s world things can seem hopeless, and there are a lot of faithless people. I just hope that people find this (the album) a blessing,” said Miller, “My mom has always showed me faithfulness in music.”

A member of the Rushville First Southern Baptist Church, Danielle has lived in Greensburg with her husband, Al, for one year.

Previously she lived in Michigan for 20 years, as well as Columbus and Indianapolis.

“I’m just trying to be involved,” said Miller, “I love it in Greensburg, the people are real laid back.”
