Eileen Fisse: In like a lion

Well, I guess March came in as a lion, so maybe it will be nice by the end of the month.

I did plant some lettuce seed on Saturday in a barrel by my back door. It is now snow-covered, but lettuce likes it damp and cool.

We have some activities coming up. On March 25 the Extension Board will have their annual open house at the Extension Office from 5 to 7 p.m. Please plan to attend.

Our Homemakers International Night will be held on April 7 at First Baptist Church. The Theme is “Visit Indonesia.” Registration is at 5:30 with dinner at 6 p.m. Reservations need to be sent to Barb Smiley at 891 S. Co. Rd. 700W. Greensburg, IN 47240 by March 27.

Cost is $10. Make checks payable to Decatur County Extension Homemakers. Also that night we will have our Cultural Arts contest. The special project this year is purses. If bringing a purse it can not be bigger than 20 inches square. Also the other cultural can be any needlework, quilting, painting etc. The judging will be done by the group and the winner will represent Decatur County at conference in June.

We will also have sheets to sign up to work at the fair. Be sure to sign up now to get your first choice.

The Extension Homemakers are always looking for new members. If interested in joining just call the Extension Office at 663-8388 or ask and Extension Homemaker about joining. Remember also that all our programs are open to everyone.

We wish Alice a quick recovery from her shoulder surgery.

As I look through my cookbooks, I always find interesting bits of info. I am including a few items about things we use often.

Teapots

The brewing of tea in a pot dates back nearly 5,000 years to ancient China. In many parts of the world, brewing and serving tea involves great ceremony The teapot itself has become a symbol of hospitality in the home.
