Warm weather, finally! As if Main Street Greensburg wasn’t already excited about our spring and summer events, we certainly are now. We have a lot planned and are excited to share a lot of news with you this month. Before we do, however, I want to thank everyone that showed up and volunteered for the Go Greensburg, Keep it a Cleansburg event on April 5th. Ellie Burkhart had a great turn out and Greensburg got the spring cleaning that it needed after such a long winter.
If you are interested in putting the petal to the metal on our adult big wheels, we still have a few team spaces available for the Fisher 5 Mile Big Wheel Race! Reigning champions, Smith Martial Arts, will be racing again this year. It will be held on May 17th on the square and will begin at 3:00pm. The race is in honor of Greensburg’s own Carl Fisher, the founder of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Registration is $50 per team and forms can be found the on the events page of our website, or by contacting me. Team space is limited. This year’s presenting sponsor is the Greensburg Daily News, and in-kind sponsors include Enneking Auto Body, Game Plan Graphics and the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. Also, we ask that you do not leave cars parked overnight in the interior spaces around the Courthouse on Friday, May 16th seeing as that is the area we will be using as the track the next day.
The Summer Farmers’ Market will begin on May 9th Downtown in the parking lot on the south side of the Courthouse. The summer market occurs weekly on Fridays from 2:00 – 6:00 pm. In addition, we are partnering with the YMCA to hold fitness classes on the lawn on the second Friday of the month and are working with the local 4-H director to have some demonstration booths set-up during the market. Decatur County Memorial Hospital is sponsoring $1 Kids Gift Certificates, handed out to kids 12 and under on May 9th only to promote buying local (redeemable with the Market Master). The Junk in the Trunk event, a fundraising event where people sell yard sale type items out of their car, will be held Downtown on the second Friday of the month from 4:00 – 8:00 pm.
