Jennings County won a hotly contested match with Greensburg to claim the Greensburg sectional title in tennis, 3-2.
Four of the five matches went to three sets with the Pirates claiming the only two-set victory when Sarah Stier and Becky Kinker won a straight set victory over Kaylee Ezzo and Abby Hurtle. The Pirate duo were down 2-5 in the first set and came back to force a tiebreaker in the match. They quickly dispatched the Panther partners, 7-2, and won the second set, 6-3 to win the match.
All undefeated No. 1 entrants, singles or doubles, who are not part of the winning team, are eligible to play at the next level of the tournament. Stier and Kirker will play at next week’s regional tournament.
Scores of the championship match were:
No. 1 singles: Katie Jackson (JC) def. Sara Welage (G) 6-4, 4-6, 6-3;
No. 2 singles: Mallory Hurtle (JC) def. Taylor Hunter ((G) 1-6, 6-3, 6-2;
No. 3 singles: Laura Welage (G) def. Molly Knight (JC) 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3);
No. 1 doubles: Stier and Kinker (G) def. Ezzo and Abby Hurtle (JC) 7-6 (7-2), 6-3;
No. 2 doubles: Courtney Dray (JC) and Hannah Lohr def. Tasha Heaton and Lisa Moore (G) 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
To get to the finals, Jennings County defeated Madison Shawe 4-1.
The Pirates advanced by sweeping Southwestern of Hanover 5-0. The Rebels entered the competition with a 12-2 record.

No. 2 singles: Hunter def. Megan Bladen 7-5, 6-3;
No. 3 singles: Laura Welage def. Katie McKinley 6-0, 6-0;
No. 1 doubles: Stier and Kinker def. Ruthie Moore and Kaeli Black 3-6, 6-2, 6-2;
No. 2 doubles: Heaton and Moore def. Courtney Dray and Hannah Lohr 6-4, 6-0.
