Weather Cancellations
The weather forced the cancellation of most events scheduled for Monday evening. Known cancellations include Sectional 28 of the girls’ softball tournament at Batesville and Sectional 40 at Jac-Cen-Del. The games will be made up beginning this evening. The games originally scheduled for this evening will be played Wednesday with the championship game on Thursday.
The baseball games between South Decatur and Rising Sun were canceled and the varsity game between Greensburg and South Dearborn was postponed.
The junior varsity game between Triton Central and Greensburg was also postponed.
North takes it on the chin from Milan
North Decatur hosted Milan for a junior varsity baseball game at noon Saturday. Unfortunately for the Charger apprentices, the result was little different from what transpired two hours earlier as the Indians claimed an 11-1 victory in seven innings.
Ryne Menefee, who has missed most of the season while undergoing medical treatment, started and pitched four innings for the apprentices who had just three hits on the game.
South Decatur JHS defeats South Dearborn
The South Decatur Jr. High Golf Team ended their season Friday evening with a 192-212 win against visiting South Dearborn.
Meet Medalist was Dustin Huff from South Decatur who finished with a 40 on the front nine at Wyaloosing Creek Golf Course. Rounding out the team scores for South Decatur were: Michael England 45, Josh Schwering 53 and Mitchell Watkins with a 48.
The junior Cougar finished the season with a combined record of 4-9.
Local girls on winning 10 and under fast pitch team
The Indiana Diamonds 10-and-under fast-pitch softball team won the 2008 Cincy Doom Spring Madness tournament held in Hebron, Ky., on Saturday and Sunday.
The Diamonds were undefeated, winning 4 games and outscoring their opponents 56 to 6.
Team members represent Ripley, Decatur, Dearborn, Jefferson and Switzerland counties.
They were Mary Hughes, Britney Biltz, Haylee Owens and Meredith Fogle from Greensburg; Meg Liter, Madison McCreary, Katie Thomas and Molly Jeffers from Batesville; Delaney Murphy from Aurora; Bree Barnes from Madison and Brooke Todd and Kelsi Konkle from Vevay.
The Diamonds are coached by Jeff Liter, Steve McCreary and Pat Murphy.
