Greensburg beat Madison 4-1 in the Batesville Sectional to advance
to tomorrow night’s second round game against South Dearborn.
The Pirates scored first in the second inning when Carlee Eversole
walked, advanced to second on an infield grounder and scored on
Briana Donnelly’s base hit.
In the third inning, the Pirates nicked the Cubs for two runs when
Megan Hahn doubled leading off the inning. She was sacrificed to
third by Rachel Schmeltz who was safe at first on an error allowing Hahn
to score. Melissa Fry’s base knock plated Schmeltz for the second
run of the inning.
Madison got one run back in the bottom of the inning on a single, a
passed ball, an infield out and a bunt single.
As good teams are supposed to do, the Pirates also retaliated in
their next at bat when Hayley Ballentini singled, advanced to third on
pitcher Niki Neisius’ base hit and scored on a passed ball.
Greensburg plays South Dearborn in the first game tonight slated for 5 p.m.
The Lady knights defeated Franklin County to advance to the
semi-final round.
