Mollye Leas gets invite to state

When the Indiana High School Athletic Association failed to fill its allocation for state qualifiers Tuesday night, Mollye Leas got a call back to fill the 27th and final slot in the state meet to start May 30.

The field of competitors at the state competition must consist of 27 throwers. There are eight regionals and the top three of each regional qualify for state. This equals 24 participants. The girl who finished in fourth position at the Shelbyville Regional threw farther than the "State Standard" of 127' 9" so she received an automatic position at

state. That filled 25 slots.

The IHSAA then looked at the next highest throw and that was 120'10" by a girl from North Judson High School. She filled the 26th position.

Mollye threw 120’9” giving her the 27th slot.
