Greensburg opened the 2008 girls’ golf season with a runner-up finish to Indianapolis Roncalli at the Shelbyville Invitational held at Bear Chase Monday morning.
Brianna Scheidler tied for the individual runner-up with Roncalli’s Anna Gleixner at 81. Her teammate, Jamie Caylor, shot 77 to claim medalist honors. Megan Gindling finished in fourth with an 83 to give the top two teams a sweep of the first four individual rounds.
Greensburg posted a 353 score but trailed Roncalli badly as the Lady Rebels posted a 328 to claim the title.
"For a season opener, this is a decent score and much better than last year's 397 in this tourney,” Pirates’ coach Phyllis Hamilton said. “Brianna and Megan once again led our team so now we just have
to get 3-4-5 down in the 80's. If we can continue to improve from our scores last year, we'll be in great shape."
The Lady Chargers put together a team score of 427 to finish two strokes ahead of Rushville.
“Tara Lecher, a sophomore, had a good outing in leading the way for the Chargers on the first day of the girls golf season.,” reported North Decatur golf coach Dan Borns. “I'm looking for her to continue
this strong play, and for all of the girls on the team to try their hardest to join her. There were several moves in the right direction today, and as the girls get back in the swing of things I am sure that their
scores will continue to move downward.”
Lecher scored a 91 to pace the Lady Chargers. Following her were Taylor Rempe, 108, Katie Gahimer, 109, Abby Stewart, 117 and Taylor Rempe, 108.
The difference between the best score and the worst score recorded by the Pirates’ No. 3, 4 and 5 golfers was but two strokes as Kyra Domingo finished next for the Pirates with a 94. She was followed by Kasey Kilgore's 95 and Hillary Miller's 96
