The Lady Pirates golfers left the safe shores of home and set sail in foreign waters Wednesday for a major invitational and returned with a strong showing.
Greensburg shot its way to third place out of 15 teams at the Roncalli Invitational in Greenwood. Martinsville took top honors and home team Roncalli came in second.
Brianna Scheidler led the Lady Pirates with a 72 but was bested on the first hole of a playoff for medalist honors by Janice Baumberger of Franklin Central.
Megan Gindling shot a 79; Hillery Miller, 85, Kyra Domingo, 98; and Kasey Kilgore rounded out the Greensburg scoring with a 101.
Coach Phyllis Hamilton felt good about her team’s showing and hoped it was another step toward overall improvement on the links.
“We had great play from Brianna Scheidler and Megan Gindling in showing their senior leadership. Miller shot her best round ever, and now we need to work on getting Kyra and Kasey improving on their scores,” Hamilton said.
Next up for the Lady Pirates is the Greensburg Invitational. Teams will square-off beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.
