According to many residents, these are very exciting times for the city of Greensburg.

Hoping to keep the prosperity going, lifelong resident Jamie Cain has announced his intentions to seek the Republican nomination for the 3rd District City Council seat in Greensburg.

“I want to help continue the trend of economic growth in the area, but still keep the small town charm I’ve grown up with,” Cain said.

After graduating from Greensburg Community High School, he began working full-time at GECOM while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision from Purdue University, where he graduated with highest distinction. While completing college, Cain wrote an essay on the essence of effective leadership, which earned him a trip to Washington D.C. There, Senator John Glenn commended him for his thoughts on leadership at an awards ceremony.

“It was tough working full-time and working toward my degree,” Cain said. “It has taught me to never give up and make good decisions. I believe that experience will help me if I’m elected.”

Cain has several years experience in leadership at GECOM Corporation. He is currently the Safety Director and overseas the safety department for five locations, Greensburg, North Vernon, Frankfort, KY, Winchester, KY, and Detroit.

As a Safety leader, Cain says he helped GECOM reduce injuries by more than 50 percent in the last year. His position at GECOM has also allowed him to help prepare and plan budgets.

According to information supplied to the Daily News by the candidate, while supervising an assembly department he helped increased production by more than 10 percent in less than one year.

Cain feels his experiences will be very valuable if elected to the City Council.

“It’s not just what I think, but it’s how everyone else feels towards an issue,” he explained. “I want to be a leader by doing research and delivering all the information to help everyone make the best, educated decision possible. I also believe a City Councilman must represent his constituents, and how can he do this without seeking their opinions?”

Cain stated that if he is elected he will truly represent the citizens of the 3rd District.

Cain is also a volunteer firefighter for the city of Greensburg and has been a volunteer firefighter for eight years. He was a Chief with the Adams Township Volunteer Fire Department before joining the Greensburg Fire Department.

“While working with Adams I helped file for many grants where we received money to better the equipment. I hope to also utilize grants to help Greensburg improve so it’s not a burden on the taxpayers.”

Cain currently serves as the Training Officer for all Greensburg volunteer firefighters. He holds several certifications in firefighting and also works with Decatur County EMS on a PRN or as needed basis as an EMT-Basic.

“I really enjoy, and get satisfaction out of, helping others,” Cain said.
