Mayor Frank Manus is ready for another go-round with the city of Greensburg.
Sunday, Manus officially announced his intention to seek re-election in the upcoming mayoral race. Manus will be seeking the Democratic nomination against newcomer Jean Johannigman in the May primary election.
Manus says he loves Greensburg, he feels the city is primed for big things and wants keep his spot at the helm.
“Currently, we have many opportunities available to our city as well as our county. I feel it will be very important for the city and county to work together to accomplish and finalize all of the projects that my term has presented to us,” he said. “My focus has been on the city of Greensburg; to make it a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
Manus stated he feels he has accomplished much during this recent term, but there is work to be done. While he credits a lot of the success to a countless list of people around him, he feels he has what it takes to guide Greensburg into the future.
“I feel that being Greensburg’s Mayor requires being a good listener and being open to other people’s opinions, then to go forward for the betterment of all of the people,” Manus said. “Sometimes, our decisions cannot please everyone but must be accomplished for the majority.”
It is this ability and the experience to make decisions that Manus feels will be most beneficial to the community over the course of the next four years.
“In the future, Greensburg will have many more major decisions to be made, and I feel it would benefit the city to have continuity,” Manus said. “Therefore, my focus for the upcoming term would be to benefit all of our citizens and not to focus on one special group. We should all be proud of Greensburg and Decatur County now and in the future.”
A graduate of Greensburg Community High School, Manus has lived in Greensburg his entire life. He and his wife, Barbara, have been married for 56 years. His two children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren have all been born and raised in the city as well. After a long career working for Johnston’s Wholesale in insurance, Manus served as Greensburg’s Mayor from 1996 to 1999.
He feels his roots, work experience and political history give him the right attributes to continue in the office of Mayor.
“I do feel that the many educational opportunities I was given by the company and then my tenure during my two terms have equipped me with some of the skills and common sense needed to represent Greensburg,” Manus said.
