Star Wars geeks rejoice! George Lucas has managed to once again tap into his seemingly overflowing bonanza of Star Wars back stories to bring audiences the latest in another surefire way to make himself more money.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a CGI-animated feature that tells the story of a secret mission that takes place between the fifth and sixth Star Wars films, which are Episode 2: Attack of the Clones and Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith.
As the Clone Wars continue to devastate the Galactic Republic, the evil and aptly named Darth Sidious continues to tighten his grasp around the universe, posing as the galaxy’s savior Supreme Chancellor Dantius Palpatine. Sidious has developed the Clone Wars to spread chaos around the galaxy, and plans to eventually launch his plot to kill all the Jedi to make his rule unquestionable.
In the meantime, Jedi Knights Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are forced to embark on a mission that could have dire consequences for the Republic. When Jabba the Hutt’s son Rotta is kidnapped by a mysterious group of renegades, the Jedi Knights ready to set out looking for answers.
But before their mission can begin, Master Jedi Yoda sends along a young Padawan named Ahsoka Tano as Anakin’s apprentice (but judging by her absence in Revenge of the Sith, the movie probably does not end well for her).
Sidious’s uninformed puppet and Sith Lord Count Dooku, alongside his new apprentice Asajj Ventress, enter the fray when Anakin, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan get too close to the truth. If the Jedi Knights cannot keep the problem contained, the theft of Jabba the Hutt’s son threatens to cause more havoc for the Republic and create a three-way war between the Galactic Republic, the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Hutts. With the Clone Wars still sweeping through the galaxy, the fate of the universe may rest on young Anakin’s shoulders.
Some actors from the live-action Star Wars films, including Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Christopher Lee as Dooku and Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu will return to voice their respective characters.
When the animated Clone Wars micro-series hit Cartoon Network a few years ago, it received stellar ratings and fans gobbled up the DVD release. Seeking to improve upon the animation style and tell a bigger story, George Lucas greenlit the silver screen feature.
Battle droids gets smashed, stormtroopers get maimed, lightsabers clash, friends become enemies and fanboys’ questions are answered when Star Wars: The Clone Wars arrives in theaters this Friday.
