Art on the Square plans birthday celebration.

Greensburg — Art on the Square Gallery in downtown Greensburg is celebrating its fifth anniversary.

To mark this milestone, the gallery is hosting a party and fundraising event Thursday, May 2 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The casual evening will feature pizza and beverages, music by Bill Rethlake, activities, and a silent auction of works by local artists and artisans. All proceeds will benefit the gallery. Tickets are limited and are $25 per person. They can be purchased at the gallery or by calling 812-663-8600.

The special feature of the May 2 celebration will be award winning Plein Air artist Larry Rudolech painting and visiting with guests in the gallery. His work will be sold at auction at the end of the evening. Rudolech attends numerous Plein Air events throughout the country annually winning many awards, and his work has been accepted to the prestigious Hoosier Salon show every year since 2001. Some of his work is currently on display at the gallery and more information can be found at www.rudolech.com.

The silent auction is open to all during the month of April with bidding to end at 8:30 p.m., Thursday, May 2. Bidders are welcome during gallery during regular hours or at “Second Friday at the Gallery,” Friday, April 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. Bidders do not need to be present at the May 2 event to win.

Art on the Square Gallery, located at 114 E. Washington Street on the north side of the historic courthouse square in Greensburg, opened in May 2008 as an initiative of the Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County and features original art in all media by local and regional artists.

Special exhibits are hosted regularly, and the studio area is used for art classes, including the popular “Gallery Night Out” where participants of all abilities have fun creating a “masterpiece” in one evening. The gallery also hosts a monthly extended hours “Second Friday at the Gallery” when visitors can enjoy refreshments and visit with the artists while enjoying the gallery exhibits. Gallery hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
