Gold City gospel group to visit Westport Baptist

WESTPORT – Nationally acclaimed southern gospel male quartet group Gold City will be performing a concert at Westport Baptist Church at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 13.

This year’s event will be the fifth time Westport has hosted the prestigious quartet from Gadsden, Alabama. Gold City has been performing gospel music for 34 years.

Concert organizer Bryan McCullough said, “I grew up listening to Gold City on the way to school with my grandpa, Clifford Byard, who was also a member of a gospel quartet. He always told me they had the richest harmony and the best bass singer in gospel music. It has meant a lot to me to be able to bring them to Westport.”

Gold City is comprised of five members. Tim Riley sings bass and was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2013. His son, Daniel Riley sings baritone. Lead vocalist Chip Pullen and tenor Robert Fulton recently joined the group and talented pianist Bryan Elliot has been accompanying quartets since age 15.

The group has a powerful testimony, according to time Riley. “Our job is to sing, to minister to that person sitting in the back row at a concert that may be his only chance to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. How can we expect God to honor our efforts if we don’t honor our own relationship with Him?”

Tickets are available from McCullough for $12. Children from ages six to 12 are $6 and children under age 5 are free. To purchase tickets, call 812-591-3824. In addition, a freewill donation dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the church’s Outreach Center across the street.

“Come join us for a great night of food, fellowship and great gospel music. You will be blessed by the ministry of these Christian artists who are truly devoted to bringing glory to God through their music,” McCullough said.

Westport Baptist Church is located on Main Street in Westport. Handicapped access to the sanctuary is now available at the east entrance of the church.
