Adult Big Wheel race to return to Greensburg

Greensburg — Downtown Greensburg will witness adults at play May 25 with the return of the Fisher 5 Mile Adult Big Wheel race.

The race was founded last year as a way of having fun and honoring Greensburg native Carl Fisher, the man whose creative idea led to the building of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Last year, the well-attended race was part of an entire day of racing-themed miniature spectacles around the courthouse square, all part of the "GoGreensburg" community project.

The race will begin at 1:30 p.m., but the Historical Society of Decatur County will be hosting an ice cream social just prior, at 1 p.m., where audience members and teams can enjoy homemade ice cream.

Ten teams of six will be provided an adult-sized big wheel which they will race relay-style around the courthouse square for 20 laps. Ten fearless teams ride big wheels around the historic courthouse en route to fame, fortune, and glory - or at least a trophy.

The event should go on, rain or shine, so bringing the family out and cheering for the brave adults willing to sacrifice their vanity in the name of fun might prove to be an excellent way to spend a Spring afternoon.

“It’s all for fun and to celebrate what a small community is all about,” said Bryan Robbins, director of Main Street Greensburg.

Interested riders and/or teams should contact Bryan Robbins at 812-593-4207 or email director@mainstreetgreensburg.com for more information.
