'40 Years of College' holding benefit

COLUMBUS – A benefit concert on behalf of Our Hospice of South Central Indiana will be presented by 40 Years of College at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Columbus North High School Erne Auditorium.

The ticketed event is being sponsored by 40 Years of College, a well-known Columbus area classic rock band, to help Our Hospice raise funds and defray costs associated with the 2013 Hospice Concert, which was rained out on Aug. 31 at Mill Race Park, Columbus. All proceeds from the benefit concert will help provide care and services for Our Hospice patients with an advanced illness and their families, regardless of their ability to pay.

“Our Hospice would like to thank the community for their support following the cancellation of the 2013 Hospice Concert over Labor Day weekend,” said Sandy Carmichael, President of Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. “Whether it was a note, phone call or donation, the outpouring of care and concern was truly appreciated.”

Our Hospice reports funds received from individuals since the Aug. 31 concert, to help with fundraising and defray costs, total about $3,000.

“We’re sad the 2013 Hospice Concert was rained out,” said Dr. Roy Goode, Our Hospice’s Medical Director, and a member of 40 Years of College. “We want to support the community and Our Hospice, and this is our way of giving back. We are more than happy to do the benefit concert for Our Hospice. It is unfortunate that Our Hospice has had three down concert years (due to weather), with this year being the most devastating, since the concert had to be canceled before it even started at Mill Race Park.”

“40 Years of College has been privileged to participate in several past concerts for Our Hospice, and our guitarist, Dr. Roy Goode, is Medical Director at Our Hospice. When we realized the impact of the Tommy James and The Shondells concert cancellation, we decided to see what we could do to help. Our Hospice is so important to the community that we wanted to try to replace at least some of their lost revenue,” said Warren Ward, manager of 40 Years of College.
