Children’s Health and Safety Fair returns for 6th year

GREENSBURG – The annual Children’s Health and Safety Fair will be returning to the Tree City at the Decatur County Family YMCA for its sixth running.

Gilliland Howe Funeral Home and the YMCA have worked together for several years to provide the annual health and safety fair for area children and their families. In addition to valuable health and safety lessons and demonstrations, the event will be provide fun, food, information and games from everyone who attends.

According to information provided to the Daily News by Leslie Thackery, a coordinator of the event, the Children’s Health and Safety Fair will take place Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature a number of activities for guests. The event, as well as all the entertainment and food will be free of charge. Some vendors may have mementos for sale, but the entire family can enjoy the health and safety fair without spending a penny. There is no cost for vendors or exhibitors either.

The Decatur County Board of Health and Decatur County Memorial Hospital have teamed up to offer 100 free flu shots on a first come, first served basis. The Lion’s Club will be providing vision screenings and Urgent Care will be on hand with blood pressure and sugar level tests.

At 12:30 p.m., any children from age 3 to 12 who would like to participate in the Kids’ Fun Run will be split into age groups on the outdoor track. The distance run for each group will correspond to the ages of the runners. Everyone who takes part in the fun run will receive a participation ribbon.

Pullers for Christ will be hosting a Pedal Tractor Pull at 1 p.m. Boys and girls will pull against each other in three categories. Class one will be for children from 20 to 43 pounds, class two for children from 44 to 57 pounds and class three for children from 58 to 70 pounds. Winners in each class will receive trophies and everyone will take home a participation ribbon.
