'The Nobbe Show' at Art on the Square gallery

Greensburg Daily News

---- — GREENSBURG – Art on the Square Gallery, 114 E. Washington Street, on the north side of the Courthouse Square in downtown Greensburg, is very pleased to present a wonderful show during October by two Greensburg native sisters-in-law - paintings by Connie Hargitt Nobbe and metal sculptures by Susie Nobbe .

Connie Hargitt Nobbe is the daughter of Jim Hargitt and Beverly Hargitt. She grew up in Greensburg and was first inspired artistically by her mother, who would paint in oils on canvas many afternoons in the kitchen. Connie graduated from Greensburg Community High School in 1984, and, with encouragement from GCHS art teacher Judith Richey, went on to study at Ball State University where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design in 1987. After working in the graphic arts field for a few years, she ventured into a career in nursing, but never abandoned her artistic endeavors. She now lives in Brownsburg, with her husband Jeff, from the Batesville area, and daughter Alyssa.

Connie’s oil paintings, watercolor and colored pencil drawings reflect her study of still life, plein air landscapes and portraiture. Working in a representational style, she not only celebrates the beauty of the subject at hand, but the joy of laying down juicy paint and color.

Susie Nobbe is also a Greensburg-Batesville native, the daughter of Joan and the late Harold Nobbe. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Oldenburg in 1994. Susie was always talented at drawing, but her focus in recent years has been metal sculptures.

Susie’s steel sculptures are scrap metal and ordinary parts re-imagined and reassembled into original sculptures. Welded together, varnished, and often including other materials such as glass or tile, these old metal scraps are transformed int0 one-of-a-kind functional furniture and decorative pieces. Each piece is truly unique.

“The Nobbe Show” at Art on the Square Gallery, 114 E. Washington Street in Greensburg will be the feature of this month’s “Second Friday at the Gallery” on Friday, October 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to meet the artists, view the show and enjoy refreshments.

The exhibit will be on display for the entire month of October during regular gallery hours, Tuesday - Friday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
