Sept. 1

Free community Hospice concert featuring Three Dog Night at Columbus North High School.

Miss Tree City 2012 is accepting applications until Sept. 1. Candidates must reside within Decatur County and be between 17 and 22 years of age. Preliminaries will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27 and the winner will be crowned immediately following the Littles on the stage Friday, Sept. 28. The winner of Miss Tree City will be competing for the title of Miss Indiana Festivals later this fall. Applications are also available at all area high schools as well as online @ www.treecityfallfestival.com.

Sept. 4

Decatur County Sheriff's Department will hold a regular session of the Merit Board no later than 8:30 p.m., following an executive session at 7 p.m. Public guests with intent to attend the regular session should assemble in the lobby of the Decatur County Sheriff's Department upon the convening of the regular session.

Sept. 5

Council meeting and presentation by MainStreet Greensburg executive director Bryan Robbins at 9:30 a.m. at Greensburg Adult Center. Sue Fortman of the Family Nutrition Program will be lunchtime guest speaker.

County Board of Zoning Appeals meets at 7 p.m. in courthouse meeting room.

County Plan Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. in courthouse meeting room.

The free preschool program for children entering kindergarten in fall 2013 or 2014 will again be offered at Greensburg United Methodist Church. The classes are offered to children who are not presently enrolled in any other preschool. The class will meet at 6 p.m. every Wednesday night at the Greensburg United Methodist Church, and the sessions will last for approximately 90 minutes.

This program is directed by Jere' Sturges, a retired elementary preschool teacher. The goal is to offer a readiness program for the children  who will be entering kindergarten in the next two years, with suggestions for at-home activities and guidelines for child development progress.
