The grass is getting greener, the leaves and flowers popping out across the landscape and a giant rabbit in a snazzy vest has been frequenting the Daily News office these days.

It can only mean one thing: It’s time for the Daily News’ annual Easter Egg Hunt.

This year’s staple of the Easter holiday will be held Saturday at the YMCA soccer fields. The festivities will begin at 2 p.m. and is open for children ages 0-9. Three groups - 0 to 3, 4 to 6, and 7 to 9 - will set out every 15 minutes for their chance to snatch as many brightly colored eggs as their little hands and big baskets can hold. This year, the Daily News staff (in conjunction with the Easter Bunny), has been stuffing more than 2,500 eggs with toys, candy, gift certificates from local restaurants and certificates for bigger prizes inside the pastel plastic eggs for the youngsters to enjoy. Three giant Easter baskets and three bicycles - one for each age group - will be hidden among the the brightly colored Easter eggs to suprise a few lucky hunters.

Kids can also bring their coloring contest entries, if they haven’t been turned in already, to the hunt for the chance to win Holiday World tickets.

Parents are encouraged to attend the fun frolicking frenzy, and all are reminded to recycle their eggs in the giant gray containers so the Easter Bunny can use them again.

Oh, and that giant friendly bunny with the snazzy vest might just drop by as well.
