Every year, the firefighters at the Greensburg Fire Department invite the community to the fire station for the annual chili supper, and this year will not be different.
Beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday Oct. 10, the fire department will host the yearly dinner, and families who come out to enjoy the fall weather, hot dogs and chili will find what they are looking for.
The benefit is put together by the Ladies Auxiliary, and the group will be using the money gathered at the fundraiser to help furnish equipment and other needs for the fire department.
The community is invited to attend the fundraiser, and according to Asst. Chief Rick Emsweller, the atmosphere should be like an open house. Anyone who attends will be allowed to check out the station first hand and get a close look at some of the equipment and the trucks that keep the people of Greensburg safe from fires.
“The guys look forward to doing it,” Emsweller explained. “We all like meeting with the public.”
As the Greensburg Fire Department stays busy with Fire Prevention Week and helping to plan the annual chili dinner, the department will also play host to the Optimist Club’s breakfast where the club will be announcing its Firefighter of the Year. The morning’s festivities will begin at 6:30 a.m. Thursday at the fire station.
