The Smyrna Guys & Gals 4-H Club started their April 16 meeting with host Kyle Norton giving his demonstration on his show pigs.
He explained their ages, feed schedule, and different markings. He then surprised the group with showing a mother cat and her kittens.
Then president Emma Spreckelson presided over the meeting with Blaine Schroeder leading in the American pledge. Mini 4-Her Ali Norton led the 4-H pledge.
Those in attendance answered roll call by telling the club their favorite family vacation. Those in attendance were Emma and Jane Spreckelson, Hunter and Morgan Burkart, Ali and Kyle Norton, Matthew and Isaiah Myer, Blaine Schroeder, and McKenzie Peters.
Jane read the secretary report.
Leader Katie Spreckelson gave the treasurer's report.
New business was that a new county poultry club is being formed with meetings the last Thursday of each month.
There will be a Mini 4-H Camp on June 20 for grades K, 1, 2.
The club will participate in helping the Henryville Library collect books after the tornado in March destroyed it. Members are asked to bring new or gently used books for grades K-6 to the May 19 meeting. This meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. at Deb and Mel Obermeyer's Alpaca Farm, Oldenburg. We will eat lunch there and tour their farm.
Old business was gone over that May 15 is the drop/add date and the date all livestock forms need to be turned in.
Sheep and goat tagging is May 12.
All are encouraged to apply for the 4-H trips and camps.
Our roller skating party is April 22. Permission slips were filled out with plans to meet at the Norton's at noon and then skate from 1 to 4 p.m.
Jane gave her health report on poison ivy.
Isaiah gave a safety lesson on paintballs.
Kyle read "My Teacher Ate my Homework" for devotions.
Jane then gave a demonstration on raptors.
Blaine led in singing "Sponge Bob Squarepants."
Prizes were awarded to McKenzie and Isaiah of a 4-H clip and 4-H eraser.
Parents in attendance were Deanna Burkart, Debbie Carter, Christy Norton and Katie Spreckelson.
Snacks were provided by Matthew and Isaiah with drinks provided by hosts Ali and Kyle Norton.
