GREENSBURG – Another week brings more animals currently housed at the Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter in need of loving permanent homes.
This week, the Daily News presents Adora and Tami. Adora is a sweet pitbull mix. She has a great temperament and gets along wonderfully with other dogs, as well as being very gentle with cats. Adora was underweight and malnourished when she came in, but the shelter has been working on it and she’s gaining weight. Adora can be adopted for a fee of $100, which covers her spay, vaccinations and treatment for parasites.
Tami is an owner-surrendered cat. She gets along very well with other cats and doesn’t seem to mind anyone. She is very curious and often shows interest in escaping the shelter’s cat room to explore the rest of the building. Tami is a well-rounded cat and would do well in just about any home. She can be adopted for a fee of $75, which includes her spay, treatment for parasites and vaccinations.
Every pet adopted from the shelter is vaccinated, has been treated for parasites and is spayed or neutered, all of which is included in the adoption fee. Would-be pet owners must be aware that there is a leash ordinance in the city and in the county, pets must not roam from the owner’s property.
The Animal Shelter is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The shelter is always closed on Sundays, Mondays and holidays. The Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter is located at 1635 West Park Road and can be reached at 812-663-9081.
To adopt a pet from the shelter, one must be at least 18 years old and sign a contract. Before taking a pet home to a rental home or apartment, written consent from the landlord must be presented. Prospective owners must also have containment options other than chaining available for the pet. Found pets have a three day hold during which they cannot be adopted. If no owners contact the shelter in that time period, a found pet may be sent to a new home.
If interested in providing a permanent loving home for Adora or Tami, please contact the Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter for further details. Also, a complete list of adoptable cats and dogs is available at the shelter’s website: http://www.cityofgreensburg.com/animal.html.
