Westport Health and Business Expo brings in huge crowds

WESTPORT – Every year, the Westport Area Business Association and the Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) Westport Clinic partner up to present the annual Westport Health and Business Expo on Saturday.

This year, the seventh annual Westport Health and Business Expo was held October 19, at the Westport Community Building. A large variety of options for guests were available, with everything from a variety of health screenings and flu vaccines, to local business booths and vendors, to a blood drive and lunch, all free of charge.

Soon after walking in the door, guests were greeted by Linda Simmons, CEO of DCMH. She welcomed each guest personally and gave them a free DCMH bag to carry all their expo goodies. Tables were set up all around the main room in the community building and each table featured a different business, organization or vendor. There were a total of 37 different booths that attendees could visit, many of which had free favors for each guest. Several door prizes were given out throughout the event as well.

Upon entering, guests were given a card to have initialed by a variety of different booths. Once all the spaces on the card were filled, the guest was entitled to a free lunch. The lunch consisted of burgers or hot dogs and was cooked and served by members of the Westport Kiwanis Club, who graciously volunteered their time to assist at the expo.

Lynzee McDowell, Marketing and Communications Manager for DCMH, and her collegue, Sarah Mcvey, Marketing and Communications Assistant, organized the Westport Health and Business Expo this year and are thrilled with the turnout the event saw.

“It was our most attended expo to date. We had about 375 people come through,” McDowell said.

While visiting the different booths, guests had the option of receiving several different free health screenings. Attendees could choose from blood pressure, blood sugar, done density, body fat and body mass index screenings were available. There was also a lactation station, which was new to the expo this year. In addition, Dr. Mahnee Dinsmore, an OB/GYN at DCMH, was at the Women’s Care booth to speak with guests.
