GREENSBURG – Another week brings more animals currently housed at the Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter in need of loving, permanent homes.
This week, the Daily News presents Jazzy and Molly. Jazzy is a sweet five year old purebred Bengal cat. She is very vocal and loves lap time. Jazzy would do best in a home where she is the center of attention. Though the shelter prefers her to be an only pet, they have been testing her with other cats and she seems to be getting along alright with them. She did have some minor preexisting medical conditions, but the shelter has taken care of them and she seems to be doing much better. Jazzy can be adopted for the regular $75 fee, which includes her spay, treatment for parasites and vaccinations.
Molly is a two and a half year old Walker coonhound. Her previous owner found her as a stray, but unfortunately could not keep her long. As coonhounds always are, Molly is very vocal. She is a very sweet dog and has beautiful markings. She gets along great with other dogs, but barks at and chases cats.
Every pet adopted from the shelter is vaccinated, has been treated for parasites and is spayed or neutered, all of which is included in the adoption fee. Would-be pet owners must be aware that there is a leash ordinance in the city and in the county, pets must not roam from the owner’s property.
The Animal Shelter is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The shelter is always closed on Sundays, Mondays and holidays. The Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter is located at 1635 West Park Road and can be reached at 812-663-9081.
To adopt a pet from the shelter, one must be at least 18 years old and sign a contract. Before taking a pet home to a rental home or apartment, written consent from the landlord must be presented. Prospective owners must also have containment options other than chaining available for the pet. Found pets have a three day hold during which they cannot be adopted. If no owners contact the shelter in that time period, a found pet may be sent to a new home.
If interested in providing a permanent loving home for Jazzy or Molly, please contact the Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter for further details. The pets listed in last week’s Shelter Spotlight are still available. Also, a complete list of adoptable cats and dogs is available at the shelter’s website: http://www.cityofgreensburg.com/animal.html.
