Greensburg Daily News
---- — GREENSBURG – Another week brings more animals currently housed at the Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter in need of loving permanent homes.
This week, the Daily News presents Jack Frost and Lulu. Jack Frost is a 10 week old kitten. He came in after the big snow storm in early January. Jack came to the shelter with his three sisters, Snow White, Stormy and Sugar and their mother, Veronica. Jack is very sweet. He was a little shy when he first came to the shelter, but he’s warming up to humans quite nicely. Jack Frost can be adopted for a fee of $75.
Lulu is a one year old shepherd/terrier mix. She is very sweet and playful. Lulu plays nicely with other dogs, but may chase cats. She would be a great addition to an active family and she seems like she would be great with kids of any age. Lulu can be adopted for $100.
Every pet adopted from the shelter is vaccinated, has been treated for parasites and is spayed or neutered, all of which is included in the adoption fee. Would-be pet owners must be aware that there is a leash ordinance in the city and in the county, pets must not roam from the owner’s property.
The Animal Shelter is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The shelter is always closed on Sundays, Mondays and holidays. The Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter is located at 1635 West Park Road and can be reached at 812-663-9081.
To adopt a pet from the shelter, one must be at least 18 years old and sign a contract. Before taking a pet home to a rental home or apartment, written consent from the landlord must be presented. Prospective owners must also have containment options other than chaining available for the pet. Found pets have a three day hold during which they cannot be adopted. If no owners contact the shelter in that time period, a found pet may be sent to a new home.
If interested in providing a permanent loving home for Jack Frost or Lulu, please contact the Greensburg/Decatur County Animal Shelter for further details. The pets listed in last week’s Shelter Spotlight have been adopted and are no longer available. Also, a complete list of adoptable cats and dogs is posted at the shelter’s website: http://www.cityofgreensburg.com/animal.html.
