DEAR EDITOR: It's good for the community

Dear Sirs,

Regardless of their decision, Honda’s interest in our community has rallied our residents around common issues, themes, projects and needs. Economic development is central to the cause as is the prospect of new jobs, opportunities and an enhanced quality of life.

Last Wednesday afternoon on the courthouse lawn a few hundred residents demonstrated once again that they are proud of this community, open to new investment and hopeful for the future. Most importantly, they took the time to get involved and express their interest and support. For that, we would like to thank each one of them individually although we must defer to this public forum. We appreciated your patience, resolve and tolerance of the heat in order to get the task done. The energy and enthusiasm was contagious.

As with any project there were a number of others behind the scenes that helped to make this dream of a "visual welcome" a reality. Our thanks go to Artistic Photography and our photographers, Rhonda Huber and Lori Helms, to the Decatur County REMC with Jerry Hackman and Aaron Morgan for their assistance in getting the appropriate angle for the photo shot, to Jeff Emsweller and the Tree County Players; Steve Doerflinger and the Greensburg Country Club and Angie Reynolds for their communications assistance, Acra Automotive for providing the featured Honda, WTRE and the Greensburg Daily News for getting the word out about the effort, and Decatur County officials for allowing use of the courthouse lawn.

Whether it is through letters, drawings, pictures or support of the community photo, residents have expressed in many ways their love of this county and what it represents to them. Our perspective has allowed us to not only be grateful for their support, but inspired by their commitment and for that we thank everyone and know that the entire community will be stronger as a result of this potential project.

Sincerely,

David J. Fry, Secretary
