CASA's still needed

Greensburg — Dear Editor,

Two hundred.

That's how many local children have been the victims of abuse or neglect but currently sit on our waiting list at Advocates for Children, without a Court Appoint Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer to stand by their side as they navigate the child welfare system alone.

Stop for a moment and think about that number.

Two hundred children, right here in our community, may not be sure where they'll go to school next week.

They may be wondering if they'll ever see their brothers or sisters again, or what's become of the only family they've ever known.

Two hundred!

But it doesn't have to be that way.

A single CASA volunteer can change a child's life and make an impact on generations to come. With only 10 hours a month, you can lift up a child's voice, a child's life, and ensure that he or she finds a forever family in which the youth will thrive.

Please visit our website at apowerfulvoice.org or contact our office toll free at (877) 604-9402 to learn more about how you can you can help fight for these children and fulfill our fundamental obligation to society's most vulnerable citizens: Our children.

One volunteer can make a lifelong difference.

Rick Scalf,

Community Outreach Coordinator, Advocates for Children, Columbus
