Our city government has passed an ordinance to increase the Cumulative Cap Development tax to its maximum.
This is a tax on all taxable property in the city of Greensburg.
Hershel Houk has started the applicable remonstrance to this tax as was detailed by the Department of Local Government finance criteria (DLGF).
The deadline to sign the remonstrance in objection to this additional tax being implemented is July 22.

In order to sign you must be a property owner in the City of Greensburg.
This tax is a very flexible tax that can be used for a variety of purposes as is stated in Indiana Code: 36-9-15.5.
The City has stated that this increase will be utilized to circumvent the financial effects of the Circuit Breaker on the city government. This reason for increasing this tax to the max negates the benevolent purpose of why the Circuit Breaker Cap was implemented. The Circuit Breaker was put into place to aid property owners because property owners incomes are
diminishing in many cases in this economy.
In checking out all the uses in the above Indiana Code, you will find that it can also be used for capital projects and a variety of other reasons including airport land acquisition and expansion.
If you object to this tax being levied on all property in the city limits of Greensburg, please make an effort to sign this remonstrance right away.
