Two drivers travailing down I-74 last Saturday, March 7, were jolted when unidentified projectiles unceremoniously shattered their right rear windows in the bright daylight of the afternoon.

On Wednesday, March 10, Sgt. Dan Goris and Sgt. Steve Weigel of the Indiana State Police arrested two 13-year-old St. Leon area juveniles in connection with the incidents.

On the day of the attacks, 38-year-old Jason King of Fishers was traveling east on I-74 west of the St. Leon exit in Dearborn County when the window of his 2008 Saturn SUV was smashed. Only minutes later, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by 32-year-old D’Aure Smith of Cincinnati was driving east and experienced the same attack. Neither driver reported injuries, nor did their passengers. King was traveling with his wife and three children, while Smith was traveling with his wife.

Following the incident, ISP officers scoured the area with help from the St. Leon Police Department and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department.

Both suspects are students at the Sunman-Dearborn Middle School and information obtained through the school was instrumental in identifying the suspects, according to an ISP press release. A "pump" style BB/Pellet gun believed to have been used in the incident was recovered during the investigation. The juveniles will be facing two counts each of criminal recklessness and were released to the custody of their parents pending a hearing in the Dearborn County Juvenile Court.
