A turbulent and raucous episode Thursday night annoyed the residents of Clarksburg and ended in the arrest of Shane Michael Koors.

Koors, 21, 27057 Sanes Creek Road, Rushville, was arrested Thursday evening on charges of resisting law enforcement, trespassing, battery, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

A report of battery received by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department at 5:33 p.m. on June 11 scrambled Deputy Dave Henderson to County Road 640 N. in Clarksburg.

“It was an interesting ordeal,” Henderson said.

According to the caller who phoned the department, Koors had reportedly wandered into the home of an acquaintance in Clarksburg. As the homeowners tried to remove him, he fought back. After he was forced outside, he ambled over to a neighbor’s house whom he reportedly did not know and punched through a window, shattering the glass and injuring his arm. Following that, he began to roam around town, Henderson said. That’s when the Sheriff’s Department arrived on the scene.

As Koors meandered around Clarksburg, he was reportedly shouting and bellowing, Henderson said. This alerted the nearby homeowners to the scene Koors was creating, many of whom had gathered on their porches to watch. When Henderson pulled up, the residents pointed him in the right direction. Henderson explained that he found Koors wandering from the road into a yard that was not his.

As Henderson went to apprehend Koors, he noticed his injured arm and radioed for Decatur County EMS and backup assistance from his fellow officers. The other deputies worked with Henderson to take Koors into custody, during which time he was loudly shouting expletives and obscenities at them, he noted. As they tried to take him into custody, Koors became combative, adding the charge of resisting law enforcement to his tally. The charge of disorderly conduct stemmed from Koors’ refusal to be silent after numerous requests from law enforcement.

Henderson added that the entire event was an unfortunate situation. Shane Michael Koors was booked at the Decatur County Jail at 7:21 p.m. on Thursday, and Henderson noted the charges could be changed before Koors heads to court.

Trespassing is a Class D Felony, and battery Class B misdemeanor. Koors was also booked at the jail on charges of disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor, resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor, and public intoxication, a Class B misdemeanor.

The highest of those charges, a Class D Felony, can result in a jail sentence of up to 1.5 years and a fine of up to $10,000.
