It may have been a hot day, but about 100 families clamored into the basement of the First Presbyterian Church to vie for the title of Sesquicentennial baby.

About 50 babies under the age of 2 competed in four categories for each gender before determining the Sesquicentennial Baby, which was selected randomly after the winners were named.

On the girls’ side, Lily Acra claimed the prize for crazy hair while Cadence Stidham was proclaimed to have the cutest chubby cheeks and Elizabeth Bennett was deemed to possess the most darling dimples. The prettiest girl prize was given to Madison Clift.

On the boys’ side, it was domination time for the cute Larison boys. Trenton Larison was awarded the chubby cheeks prize for a face judges just wanted to squeeze. Crazy hair was given to the adorably out of control coif of Grayson Raeth while Matthew Caudill had the darling dimples no one could resist. The most handsome boy was awarded to Conner Larison who may have had a little more influence with his ability to scrunch his nose and blow kisses to the judges.

After the individual awards were done, all numbers were tossed into a box and randomly selected with the help of Jacob Evans.

For the boys, Trenton Larison was drawn. On the girls’ side, it was Mikaela Fasbinder.

The two will rule over the city for the next 50 years and will pass the crown to a new baby at the bicentennial.

The event was sponsored by Indiana Bank and Trust, with Wal-Mart sponsored Young Americans Day.
