The Greensburg Board of Works gathered in a special session, Monday, to discuss options for workman's comprehensive insurance.

Pepper Cooper of Maverick Insurance explained that a better deal would be possible if all of the city's insurance was held with the same company. However, the current policies have separate renewal dates. The overall package, which is handled through Maverick Insurance, renews on June 3 of each year. Meanwhile, the workman's comp renews on July 1. Both Mainsource Insurance and Maverick Insurance offered the same quote

with Bituminous Insurance Companies of $130,078 with no deductible, $123,166 with a $1,000 deductible and $118,177 with a $2,500 deductible.

However, without a representative of Mainsource on hand to explain the positives of choosing the local company, the argument made by Cooper on behalf of Maverick was too convincing for the board to pass up.

Cooper offered that if Maverick's quote was approved and he was made the agent of record for workman's comp insurance he will bring the renewal dates of both the overall package and the workman's comp to July 1. This, he said, would mean that a company such as Traveler's Insurance could offer a better value on next year's policies. He also noted that his company will audit the payroll of the city in order to insure that each

employee is placed in the proper risk category. This will make sure that coverage is more accurately determined, he said.

The board unanimously approved the switch to Maverick Insurance.

In addition, the board approved the disposal of a fax machine from the Clerk-Treasurer's office. The machine, Clerk-Treasurer June Ryle explained, was effected by lightning and ceased to function. As a result, her office purchased a new machine at a discount from Staples. In order for the old machine to be removed from the city's assets, board approval was required for its disposal. A unanimous vote enabled Street Commissioner Mark Klosterkemper to dispose of the machine.

The next meeting of the Board of Works will take place on July 6.
