Hunter participated in the first annual Indianapolis Star pie contest as one of more than 100 entrants. Once the forks were down, her pie was declared the first place winner.
This triumph came only six months after her cookies won fourth place in the Indianapolis Star cookie contest, which has been held for many years. Julia Hunter’s skills were also on display during a cooking demonstration on Ladies Day, June 16, of the Sesquicentennial.
“It’s so surprising to win two so close together,” Hunter said.
Hunter explained that she enjoys competing in various contests, including the Decatur County 4-H fair. This year will be no exception. Within two weeks, the fair will be in full swing and Hunter’s culinary skill will be put to the test once more.
“I don’t tell what I’m making. It might jinx me,” she said.
For husband Herb Hunter, the honor of a first place pie is well placed.
“It really is very good,” he said.
