The Indiana State Police are requesting the assistance of citizens in the Versailles District, including residents of Decatur County.
According to a press release from ISP Sgt. Noel Houze, the search is on for a burglar or burglars who pilfered goods from a Jefferson County home. On Wednesday, Aug. 12, ISP Tpr. Nate Adams was dispatched to the site of a reported burglary at 410 Peacock Court, just off Audubon Park Road near Madison. The home is owned by the Habitat For Humanity, a not-for-profit group that builds homes for families that qualify and places families in houses.
The previous occupants had moved out at the end of July. According to Ben Newell, the Habitat For Humanity director for the Jefferson County area, everything inside the home was intact and accounted for following the departure of the previous occupants. Sometime between the end of July and Aug. 12, an unknown person or persons entered the home and stole a white Whirlpool refrigerator, a white Whirlpool kitchen oven, a stainless steel kitchen sink, a bathroom sink and a bathroom mirror.
Tpr. Adams took action and did a canvas of the area, checking with neighbors and other local residents. So far, however, the investigation has not yielded much, and the ISP has been unable to develop any significant leads in the case.
Anyone with any information regarding the Jefferson County burglary is urged to contact Tpr. Nate Adams at the Indiana State Police Post in Versailles at (800) 566-6704 (in Indiana only) or at 812-689-5000.
